STS-1 - Transaction Log Statistics for Second Life

About

EGT's SL Transaction Statistics, short STS-1 (working title), is a program that reads your XML transaction history files and displays them in an interactive way. You can choose from different filters to find out which time, space, or entity influenced your linden dollars account in which way. Want to find out which sim brings you the most income? Need to know which one of your products sells worst? Want an overview of what that split-vendor pays your partner? Don't know if a specific avatar actually bought the product which a refund was requested for? In all these cases, and many more, the STS-1 can help you.

-> STS-1.zip

The zip archive contains the wrapped Windows .exe as well as the sources so you can run it on other operating systems that have TCL/Tk installed (typically Linux and MacOS). While this version certainly does what's advertised above, it is not intended to be considered the final product. STS-1 is licensed to you as FREEWARE. You are not allowed to distribute modified sources or executables.

Manual

There are some prerequisites to using STS-1. You will need to download an XML transactions logfile. You can get this by logging into your Second Life account, and choosing "Transaction History" from the bar on the left. On the next page, in the highlighted light-gray box, you can select a few options concerning date range and filtering. I usually select a whole month and leave L$0 transactions on. This way STS-1 has more data to mine. Make sure you hit "View (up to 500)" so your choices are applied to the downloadable files. Note that the limit of 500 does not apply to downloaded files, however. Next, to the right of this box is a text with some links telling you about download options. Make sure you hit the (xml) link. Do not click Download, this will give you an Excel file that STS-1 can't read yet.

(xml)

Once the file has successfully downloaded, start STS-1, open the "File" menu and hit "Load XML". From there, you're free to discover the different listings and click on items to filter for them:

Examples

  • Which sim brings the most income?

    This is simple. Just open the "by Region" tab. By default, the list will be sorted by an decreasing income amount.

  • Which products sells worst?

    This is a bit more tricky, and you may want to try different approaches to this. First of all, the STS-1 can show your region-based sales, and from there you can see which items sells most, and conclude which doesn't. So, open the "by Region" tab, click on one of the regions marked in blue to see what this spot has sold so far. It might be a good idea to sort by Amount (decreasing) so freebies will be grouped closer together.

    Another approach is to open the "by Description" tab. This one will show you how much an item has brought or cost you. This is best sorted by amount (decreasing) or name (Index, increasing).

  • What does that split-vendor pay your partner?

    This is similar to the above, but best seen if you open the "by Description" tab and click on the vendor's name. Or, the other way around open by opening "by Name" and clicking on your partner's name. A third way is to open "by Type" and selecting "Object Pays".

  • Has a specific avatar actually bought the product which a refund was requested for?

    Just open "by Name", sort by Index (increasing) and scroll down the alphabetically sorted list of transaction partners. If the respective name appears, then that's a positive. If not, ask for alts or spouses having done the shopping and check again. ;)
